Summary
This document contains revised proposals for amendments to the Control of Asbestos
at Work Regulations 1987 (CAWR). These revised proposals are as a result of
comments received during consultation on the Health and Safety Commission's
original proposals for amendments to CAWR which took place during 2000 (Consultative
Document CD159 refers). The document also contains one new proposal. To help
the reader, the document is split into four sections.
Section 1 focuses on issues arising during the first round of consultation in respect of the proposed new duty to manage asbestos, and presents revised proposals.
Section 2 concentrates on issues associated with the implementation of the asbestos related requirements of the Chemicals Agents Directive (CAD).
Section 3 presents a new proposal associated with accreditation for the analysis of materials to identify asbestos.
Section 4 concerns a proposed amendment to the Health and Safety (Enforcing Authority) Regulations 1998.
